(6) A.S.A. Success in Canada ! - Monday, May 09, 2005 " SCC member Mike Benkart was the lone ASA representative this past weekend in Canada for the Canadian GP/IO weekend. He played fantastically on Saturday and won his first ever FISTF tournament by beating Canadian Chris Buttigieg in the finals in a shootout (2-2 SO 2-1) in the Gran Prix. This was a great victory for Mike Benkart over an extremely tough field that included top Canadian players such as Scott Aldrige as well as last weekends IO winner, Wolfgang Haas. This marks only the third time an American has won a FISTF tournament in one of the big two FISTF weekends in North America (Rick Wilcox and Gregg Deinhart each won one.) In Sunday's International Open Mike fell to eventual tournament champion Scott Aldridge 2-3 SD. Aldridge beat Haas in the final by the same score 3-2 SD. Once again congratulations to Mike Benkart of Pittsburgh on a spectacular weekend of play! " (from Americansubbuteo.com)
