The 2004 SPAGHETTI BOWL
January 12-23 in Rome, Italy
SCC's co-founder Massimo Conturso was back to Italy after almost 5 years. In the land of pasta, Subbuteo is part of the daily
routine. That's how it went.
Monday 12: ROBERTO CONTURSO - MASSIMO CONTURSO  1-1
Conturso Jr., back from a surf in the Tirrenian Sea, takes advantage of Massimo's 2 hours of sleep in the last 24, as well as a
spare goalie mistake, to take an early lead. After the "traditional" woodworks and a couple of risks in defense, Massimo ties
at the last second to share the Bowl. Roberto looks much better than his last performance in Connecticut. The destiny of
the 2004 Basetta Day is still to be written.
Tuesday 13: Daylight Session:
MASSIMO-ROBERTO 2-0;  3-0;  4-1
Massimo switches to Hasbro's and, after a decent night of sleep, wins 3 on 3 in the 13-year old Bjorne Stadium!

Final:
MASSIMO 2-1 ROBERTO
Massimo finds his long-time friend, Francesco "Cecco" Codraro,
after 10 years, as well as SCC's HM Marco Scolamiero, those
last appereance on the pitch is dated March 2002 (3/29/02:
5th Challenge Cup in Farmington, CT).

Cecco is a great player and the head-to-head with Massimo is
the prove of their renewed friendship and rivalry: 1-0 Cecco,
1-1, 2-1 Cecco, 2-2, 3-2 Massimo, is the exciting sequence of
scoring.

After the first 2 rounds, Cecco finds himself facing Roberto for
the last spot in the final, where the survivor would meet
Conturso Sr. (qualified with 3-0-0, 8-2).

Roberto arrives to the break with a 2-0 lead, that Codraro
equalizes in the initial minutes of the 2nd half. The score
remaines on 2-2 and qualifies Roberto for better GD.
The final sees Massimo taking an early 2-0 lead, that Rob
reduces to 2-1 in the 2nd half.

A few good saves allow the oldest brother to maintain the
score unchanged until the end to claim the high-carb Bowl.
Wednesday 14: ROBERTO-MASSIMO   2-1
In a pre-soccer match (AC Milan-Roma) atmosphere, the young Conturso inflicts the first loss of the season to his
brother Massimo, who tries to come back from 0-2 and almost ties on a spare goalie mistake in the last minute.
Thursday 15: MASSIMO-ROBERTO   2-0;  5-1
Massimo eats lighter than his brother at lunch, avoids red wine and, after a strong espresso, finds his revenge: a goal
in each half in the first match, plus a major cameback in the second from 0-1 to 5-1!
Friday 16: MASSIMO-ROBERTO   0-0;  3-0;  1-0
In the last warm-up before tomorrow's "Basetta Day" Tournament, the oldest Conturso stays undefeated, receives no
goal in 3 siesta-time matches, too full of mistakes on both sides. To win the Basetta and lift the Taylor Trophy,
Roberto and Massimo will need better flicks.
Monday 19: MASSIMO-ROBERTO   2-1;  2-0;  3-2
Despite still being both busy with yesterday's meal digestion, the Conturso brothers give life to a memorable
afternoon in which Massimo manages to win the whole Bowl once again.
Tuesday 20: MASSIMO-ROBERTO   3-2;  3-2;  4-0
In the first two matches, Roberto goes closed to shocking comebacks as he scores twice in the second halves to tie
Massimo's 2-0 leads. But he eventually gives up the decisive goal in the last minute of both games! The
disappointment is so big that Rob collapses in the first half of the 3rd match by receiving 3 goals in 10 minutes for the
final 4-0.
Thursday 22: Warm-up:
