Farmington, Conn.
Zach Walker was the deserving winner
of the 2009 CT Cup. He defeated
Daniel Cranston in an exciting final that
ended after shootouts. It was a
shootouts kind of day, which was
stretched until 5:30 pm, when the
Mid-Atlantic contingent finally left
after 7 1/2 hrs of subbuteo.
The host club was well represented in
the semifinals by the Marques
Brothers. Miguel had a great
performance and missed the feat of
eliminating Walker by whisker, while
Rick couldn't overcome his
tournament's 'pet hate', Cranston.
Nevertheless, SCC took home a
significant pair of silverware. Luis Silva
won the Nutmeg Cup and succeeded to
his brother Frank as the consolation
tournament's champion.
And last but not least, SCC won the
North Atlantic Challenge Cup for the
6th consecutive time in a high scoring
match that ended when Miguel scored
his 5th goal in overtime.
North Atlantic Challenge Cup
For the 2nd time the Old Firm features
a 4v4 match-up, and for the 2nd time
SCC claims it in overtime.
The headline well explains the balance
and uncertainty that still reign during
the CT vs MD classic, which resumed
after a 18-month break. MSC
co-captains, Cranston & Sheridan
showed their sportsmanship by
including the Towson contingent in the
event; and their strategy skills by
creating critical match-ups. SCC
captain, Conturso was frustrated by the
talented Mr. Antoszewski; but Luis
Silva & Rick Marques showed their
resoluteness by scoring pivotal goals
despite their heavy losses. Miguel
Marques capped his positive day by
counterbalancing Conturso's anemic
attack and clinched SCC's 6th title in
overtime.
