A well-tested, 4-player format was the
landscape for a pleasant Subbuteo Sunday in
Southern Connecticut for the annual state's
Cup.

This time, in the traditional approach stage
to the Holiday Silver, the Gasparini-Capeto
Massachusetts pair was replaced by the
local, Staples based Silva-Diarra duo.

Frank Diarra was at his ASA debut after
being introduced to the club last April
(
4-15-11 meeting). A computer expert and
a Juve fan, Frank is slowly understanding the
game's strategy. He payed the toll to his
inexperience in the first round, but played
better in the second by improving his
defensive and goalkeeping skills and scored
his first goal.

Luis Silva, who ended up claiming his second
Nutmeg title, also got better in the second
round. And he improved so much to get
extremely closed to a historical upset. Lou
first lost undeservedly to Massimo, then
defeated Frank 2-0. He then won 3-1 over
his cousin Miguel, who qualified only for
having scored one more goal.
An extra goal to Frank or scoring one of the
several chances against Massimo would have
sent Luis to his first CT Cup final.

The championship match (
video) was a
typical Massimo-Miguel match, 4th CT Cup
final between the two State champions.
Not a memorable one, the game was
resolved in Massimo's favor with a first half
goal for the 6th title for the Italian.
