GROUP STAGE In Group A, top seed Miguel Marques ranked # 1 and finished undefeated, although he tripped over a rejuvenated Frank Silva for an unexpected 1-1 draw. Rick Marques and Jim Taylor qualified to the Barrage Round without surprises, while the young Davidson had the satisfaction of beating Frank 1-0 to claim the 4th rank. In Group B, things got more interesting as Lou Silva beat New England's reigning champion Massimo Conturso and tied the Titan from Salem in the opener. The Portuguese seemed locked in first place, then came Eddie Rollercoaster Davidson to ruin the party with an astonishing 2-0 win. Lou and Andrea qualified to the Barrage Round while U19 Mike Eylward showed great stuff on the pitch...

U19 TOURNAMENT Although today wasn't his birthday, Mike Eylward will remember this April 10, 2005 for quite a while. He beat 1-0 Eddie Davidson in the opener and received many compliments from the senior players. Most of all, he had a six-for-six vs. fellow U19 players (with 7 goals-for and only 1 against), outscored 5-0 Jeff & Pablo and won the U19 New England Championship Title! (plus the set of Flickmaster's bases offered by the Eyes & Davidson partnership) ..too bad for that Mary Jane Final loss. MARY JANE TOURNAMENT Frank Silva encored his famous MJ's 2-0 victory in Maryland over Nick Giffen with another gem as he routed 3-0 the young Wallingford's star.

CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT In the Open, Lou gave up the fatal goal in the Barrage Round with 5 seconds to go, while Jim had a quite convincing 2-0 win over the Salem Club's founder, Andrea Gasparini. Just like Silva, Taylor had another uncompleted run to his first ASA win as he smashed against the usually solid Miguel's defensive wall. On the other pitch, a really not brilliant match between Rick Marques and Conturso took place. To make it an even longer torture, the two players kept missing shots and chances thru out the whole overtime and needed the 9th shoot-out series to determine the winner. ..big break for the Roman. The Final was a predictable Massimo vs. Miguel, 4th championship match between them in the 12 ASA tournaments played in Connecticut. With Massimo up 2-1, Miguel went for the tie but soon found himself down 1-0 after a nice Italian chip (yes, we know how to chip..) that follwed Portuguese mistakes on defensive flicks. With Marques strangely imprecise, the Italian saw the chance of going five-for-five in his current ASA season and locked the win with a second half's blast in the upper corner.
