'In times like these, it helps to recall that
there have always been times like these'.

Four players showed up for the 9th League
event of the season: the minimum allowed
to avoid a Challenge Cup routine or a
practice session.

We waived goodbye to Eddie & Jeff in
February, but it feels like ages ago. Since
then, many of us appear to be gone in a
hiatus, like they ideally followed our friends
in Alabama, or who knows where.

Maybe we got spoiled seeing a full house of
9-10 players on a weekly base, traveling en
mass to Maryland to make history, getting
behind the All-Blacks for the National Title in
2006.

But when the club began, 4 players on a
Friday night in a damp basement was the
norm. The basements we have now are
very comfortable, so that's already a good
new start. With a renewed effort and
commitment by all SCC members, the
powerhouse will be back.

As for the 8 1/2 matches (Eylward decided
he had enough at the break of the 4th
round and gave up the 3rd place), the level
of playing wasn't exactly top notch and a
few upsets happened. Rick Marques was the
main victim of such unexpected results, but
grabbed the podium by the tail for some
useful points.

Conturso was probably the most focused in
the night and claimed his 3rd League event
(tied the Marques brothers) after repulsing
Miguel's attacks in the last game of the
night.
