West Haven, CT

A glimmer of hope enlightened the first club
meeting in six weeks as possibly the
strongest CT field of 6 faced off in the first
West Haven session since February 29th.

To League's top 5, a welcome comeback
was added in this pre-Memorial Day Friday.
Sergio Sensini got back in action with
style, and was decisive for awarding top
points to fellow countryman, Massimo
Conturso.

Sergio's last club meeting goes back to
September 16, 2005 (
link) when he
reached the semifinals in the 4th annual
State Championship. He was defeated only
by future State Champion, Miguel Marques
(2-1) after an exciting match.

And it was again against Miguel that Sergio
had the key result of the night, with a 1-1
draw that slowed down the Portuguese as
he was rebounding from a 2-3 loss to his
brother Rick in the opening round.

Jim Taylor and Rick Marques squared off in a
0-0 game, 5-5 on points, but JT edged his
rival in goal differential and claimed 4th place
behind the meeting host, Luis Silva.
To have been without flicking for 3 months,
Silva looked exceptionally sharp.
He was scoreless in 2 games (0-0 Taylor, 0-0
Conturso) while scoring a total of 6 goals,
and received only 3 for the 2nd best
defense of the evening.

Conturso became the first player to win
back-to-back League events this season in
what could become a pivotal Friday for the
final victory.
