2005/06 SEASON by Jeff Davidson

I hope everyone had a great season.
I know I sure did.
Traveling around the country and flicking with the best of the best was a great
experience and lead to great memories, as does every year for me. I now look aback to
the very beginning of last season and will try to remember all of those great memories.

First of all I have to remember the
CT State Championships. Miguel Marques beat out
Massimo Conturso in the league, which still leaves Massimo in an emotional state of “Oh
my God”, since that is the one thing that kept Massimo from sweeping all of the State
Championship awards. Massimo won the Cup and the Super Cup in which he beat Jim
Taylor in a 2-0 win and Miguel 1-1(3-0) in overtime. All of those matches were exiting
and irresistible to watch.

As for the
Marques Cup, I was not there to watch the blood matches take place but I
am sure they were extremely intense where sibling rivalry was at the forefront. In the
first Marques Cup, Ricky Marques won over Miguel but was unlucky ever since then losing
to his older brother three times.

Now we move on to the
Challenge Cups where it seemed to be a duel between
Massimo and Miguel for whom could win the most challenge cups in a season. Massimo
had seven wins and Miguel had three wins.

In the
Halloween Cup in Salem, Mass. Massimo took a victory over Andrea in a grueling
shootout.

In the third
Ash Court Cup Massimo had the greatest goal differential so he won the cup.
(Of course that was fixed as I was most definitely the winner) :)
Andrea Gasparini was a greatly welcomed guest. (*)

For the
Nationals I could write pages but I will keep it concise as to not bore the world.
The Nationals was a great time in a Farmington Senior Center so many great Subbuteo
players seemed to have a great time. We had great games going against the tops in the
country and we did pretty well, to say the least. Our own SCC Black team won the team
competition. That’s pretty much the Nationals as no one really cares about the rest, well
my dad, finished 2nd in the Veterans category to Paul Eyes, again.

After the Nationals the Davidsons, Ostap Mishtal, Keith Constable, and Alex Batacchi
played a tournament in our very own Subbuteo craziness. After the very tiring weekend
what better then to stand even longer and play against people who feel the same.
Where delirious and fun hit and if others were there to see some of the fun we had that
night. I guess you had to be there. Alex won against Keith in shootouts. And that was
our very own, very unique
Corsendonk Cup.

In the second
Taca De Silva Luis Silva beat his brother in another sibling rivalry. I was not
there either but I can assure everyone that watching Louis and Frank Silva is always a
treat to see.

And what everyone was waiting for…Ostap Mishtal won his first ever Connecticut shoot-
out! His freaky men and equally freaky keeper kept him ahead of everyone.

To be continued is the Davidson Cup where Eddie Davidson and I have not yet
completed our own tournament although we live in the same house and have three
pitches in our basement.

That is just an overview of what happened in last years season.
There were so many memories of playing Subbuteo for what seemed like an endless
season.

Everyone have a great next season, as I will.

(*) Massimo actually won the Ash Court Cup by points. Still, it was fixed: he's Juve fan.
