Maryland - Not quite like the 2004 "Sunday-Sweep-Sunday",
but the Mid-Atlantic Region keeps on smiling to SCC as the club
brings home 3 titles out of 6:
- Eddie Davidson takes the MLS Cup MJ Open with an OT win
over Texas' Keith Constable (2-1).
- Mike "Nuke" Eylward looks more and more like the best young
gun of the East Coast after he defeats Michael Tillman in the
Holiday Silver U19 final (1-0). The title, won in 2004 by SCC's
Pablo Lee, stays in Connecticut!
- the SCC wins the inaugural Holiday Silver Team Cup with a
tight 2-1 victory over host Maryland Subbuteo Club. While
captains Eyes and Conturso clash in a scoreless match, Eylward
and Rick Marques lift the team with wins over Bill Prantl (1-0)
and Rob Tucker (3-0), making meaningless Eddie Davidson's
last second loss to Ed Morgans (0-1).
On the other hand, the club misses oppurtunity to take home
the inaugural Holiday Silver Veterans as Davidson falls 0-2 to
super-host Paul Eyes, while Massimo Conturso finds in
Minnesota's Zach Walker an opponent able to exploit every
single Italian's mistakes. Conturso reaches both Open Finals,
only to fall short twice in a double 1-2 loss to Walker. He's now
0-for-4 in ASA finals played so far in the season, but stays
strong as ASA seed # 1.
