2006 ASA Holiday Silver Weekend December 2-3 in Ellicott City, Maryland

CHAMPIONS, AGAIN!!
The Holiday Silver Team Cup stays in Connecticut
after SCC outplayed a field of 8 teams.
With Benkart a no-show, Sporting America Team
became a no-contender and MSC Youth (Sheridan,
Cranston, Russell, Trainer, Tillman) reached the
final by beating the MD "old gits".
The final was exciting and after regulation, the
scores were:
Massimo Conturso 1-0 Patrick Sheridan
Eddie Davidson 2-0 Stuart Russell
Jeff Davidson 0-1 Mike Tillman
Steve Tucker 0-2 Daniel Cranston
Dead tie!
In OT, Steve Tucker was able to hold Cranston,
and Eddie scored the victory goal.
The Double is still ours!
On the individual side, Conturso's early exits are no
longer news. Saturday's Open was as crazy as his
last-of-16 round vs Marco Silva, where he first
played his worst 12 minutes ever, then one of his
best halves.
Being 2-0 down at the break, he scored, kept
possession, hit 4 posts/bars: the complete
package. It wasn't enough: 2-1 loss and his
tournament was over.
SCC best was Eddie Davidson, who reached the
semis. But he lost 1-0 to eventual champion
..STUART RUSSELL! That's right! In an all-U19
final, Stuart beat team mate Sheridan 2-1 in OT to
succeed to Deinhart & Walker in the MLS Cup
champions list.
Patrick reached the final by outscoring Paul Eyes
3-2 (2-2 at the break).
On Sunday, the old folks bounced back and Dan
Cranston was the only U19 to reach the Top 4,
only to be crushed 4-0 by team mate Paul Eyes.
With the same score, Conturso routed Texan
Keith Constable to clinch his 3rd straight Holiday
Silver Final.
The Championship Match was a North Atlantic
Classico for the ages, with the Italian unable to put
away the match in the first half after the 1-0 goal.
The Englishman stormed back after the break to
take the lead.
Chances followed for both sides until the end, and
the Maryland captain rightfully put his name on the
prestigious plate.
