And yet another final lost for Conturso. The Italian is on a drought since April
10, 2005 when he won his last ASA event (8th NEC). After that 2-0 win over
club mate Miguel Marques, 6 more finals followed (5 this season), all losses, 4
of them to Minnesota's Zach Walker.
After a 7-0 aggregate to MSC co-founders, Morgans & Eyes, Massimo had an
overall positive 1st half in the final and hit two posts. In between, a steady
7-minute possession brought Zach to lead at the break. In the 2nd half, Mass
put pressure on Zach, who replied with a quick counterattack for the 2-0
after 5 minutes. The SCC desperate siege to Walker's goal resulted fruitless
and Zach closed the count with 30 seconds to go.
The tournament saw all 4 players from Farmington in the Open Category,
two of them (both from Group B) made it to the Quarter Finals: Conturso
and Jeff Davidson. Jeff was outstanding throughout Group Stage and only
super-host Paul Eyes denied him a place in the Final Four.
Ostap Mishtal keeps on working on his skills and practice paid off with his first
official goal with his custom-made bases.
Eddie Davidson had no luck in the draw as he was picked in the group of
death with Maryland's Eyes, Morgans, Grice and ASA prodigal son, Mike
Benkart. Despite the early elimination, Eddie kept the Club pride high to bring
home the MJ title with a 4-0 win over Randy Grice.
The massive 30-player U19 event saw Daniel Cranston of MSC prevailing
over Stuart Russel in the final, while Paul Eyes was once again the best
veteran as he overcame a 4-player field and SCC Eddie Davidson in the final.
