| Semifinals A1-Wild Card MASSIMO 2-0 MIGUEL B1-C1 LUIS 3-1 ROBERTO In the first night of Spring, the CTSC met once again in Wallingford to say farewell to Roberto Conturso, who's going back to Italy--rumors say to be member of the F.I.C.O. Subbuteo Club of Ostia, Rome. The young Conturso played well as usual and won Group C with 6 points. On his way to the final, he found the great surprise of tonight: Luis Silva from West Haven. Luis was in the Group of Death with his brother Frank and his cousin Miguel. In the first match, Luis risked to throw everything thru the window, when Frank was able to come back from 0-2 to 2-2. Luis scored two more times and faced Miguel, who was strong with +3 GD, in the match-clou. And this was his masterpiece! With a 1-0 decision, the young Silva defeated the experienced Marques and claimed a spot in the semifinals as B1. Miguel, despite the surprising loss, was able to manage the title of "Wild Card" with a better GD than his younger brother Rick. In the semifinals, Massimo vs. Miguel was a sort of early final between tonight's top seeds. The Portuguese played his game as usual and tried to hit well with his counterattacks on the wings. He missed several chances and Massimo did not forgive his mistakes: 2-0. In the other match, an interesting Luis-Roberto took place. Luis showed to be on fire when he went on 3-0 over the young Italian, who scored once at the end for the "flag goal". In the final, Massimo scored twice in the early minutes, controlled the game and scored two more for the 4-0 final score and 26th Challenge Cup title. |
