CHALLENGE CUP July 25, 2002
|

Massimo Conturso (in the pitcure)
confirmed himself as CTSC's champion,
after defeating Miguel Marques 2-0 in the
Challenge. The Italian, who played with
Hasbro's Real Madrid for the first time,
finished the tournament with a 4-0
record, +10 goal differential.
The other star of the day was Eddie
Davidson. He forced the Portuguese to a
scoreless match and scored to Massimo
for the first time ever --good combination
on a throw-in on the left and powerful
shot on goal on the far post.
Miguel Marques and Jeff Davidson were in
the spot light in the last game of the First
Round, when they played each other for
a place in the Grand Final. Both with one
point, they battled until the very last
second of this unusual semifinal-type
match, which saw the Portuguese as well
deserved winner (1-0). During the
tournament, the CTSC's members talked
a lot about ASA's New Project for
Rankings, which should bring some
adjustaments in club's schedule. Since Jim
Taylor wasn't part of the night and the
project is still in the preliminary fase, the
CTSC didn't take any final decision and will
be following the situation with much
interest.
