2002 CONNECTICUT STATE LEAGUE
Massimo Conturso and Ryan Bak have been the stars of this
inaugural Connecticut League, which is destined to become
our club's top competition. On Friday, February 21, 2003,
the long ride started in November 2002 finally came to the
end: Massimo and Ryan finished the League divided by one
single point (Ryan 44-Massimo 43). Since no one "killed" the
tournament, the final became the only way to determine the
winner. The match was intense, the two contenders were
extremely nervous and under pressure: they were playing
the whole season in one win-lose game!
Massimo won because he was able to capitalize the few
chances Ryan left, and because he made fewer mistakes
than his opponent. The goal came in the first half on a
throw-in. The pass was just right, Ryan wasn't able to cover
and the ball finished under the cross-bar. Bak tried in the
second half to come back and almost made it at the very last
second on a corner kick. His shot with moving-ball found the
goalie's rod and the post! Massimo won 1-0 and claimed his
first title of State Champion.
