The TOKELAU Cup
The Tokelau Cup - Friday 9/6/02
A reduced version of the CTSC met tonight for the first edition of the Tokelau Cup, one
of the Challenge Cup's competitions.
The three members that were present tonight in Farmington don't have as original
names as the atolls: they are Massimo, Eddie and Jeff. Miguel Marques was in "family
leave", while Jim Taylor is currently in England where he will represent our country in
the 2002 FISTF World Cup, starting tomorrow September 7th.
Tonight's big score was Eddie's draw against Massimo Conturso (0-0). Davidson, who
will be in DL next week for an ankle surgery, played one of his best matches: he
controlled the ball, closed spaces and saved the impossible. With the woodworks'
help, he brought a prestigiuos result home. On the other hand, the Italian started to
take confidence with the new C6-type Astrobases and scored beautiful goals from long
distance. Even Jeff "Spiderman" Davidson could consider his night positive, after he
scored a historical goal to Massimo in the last game of the Cup.
Regarding the rest of the Subbuteo World, the ASA President, John Sarra, published
the first version of the 2002-03 ASA Calendar of Events:
November 2-3, 2002: US National Championship in Virginia
March 15, 2003: St.Patrick's Day Tournament in St.Louis, MO
April 2003: FISTF Open/Grand Prix in Virginia or CT
Summer 2003: FISTF Open
To this list, it may be added our Connecticut Cup in August 2003: our intention is to
make it an ASA event.
Unfortunately, Club's top player, Massimo Conturso, who was looking forward to
partecipate to the 2002 Nationals, will not be part of the event: November 2nd will be his
daughter Julia's 2nd birthday ..and he wouldn't miss it for nothing in the World.
Club's members would like to thank Simon Stewart of Northern Ireland for his nice
words on our website and activites.
Good luck to our Jim Taylor, Gregg Deinhart and John Sarra: make US proud!!
