2003 Shoot-out Derby
Farmington, Conn. - August 22, 2004. Three years
have passed since the first Massimo Conturso-Jim Taylor
match in Bloomfield. Since then, many players joined
the dynamic duo in this crazy adventure and this ending
season saw an unprecedented quantity and quality
showing up on the pitches in Farmington and
Wallingford. Alex Lencastre and Bob Wawrzeniak have
been the latest additions to the club roster. Alex looks
pretty hooked as he already made his first order of
Swiss T Polish..  Bob made our day in the NEMO
weekend when he picked up our pitches at Miguel's
house and moved them to the FPD.  From NYC, two
more Massimos came out to give life to the first ever
ASA Maximus Cup. Massimo Grimaldi eventually went
back to Italy, but Massimo Cutuli, who lives in the City,
could be the right person to live-up the flicks in the Big
Apple.  Their inaugural appereance in Connecticut
coincided with Andrea Gasparini's second win in the
Northeastern region. This Italian from Salerno, former
president of the Subbuteo Club "Salernitana", has surely
been the biggest news in the club. He came, saw and
conquered titles, esteem and friendship of the SCC
members.  Andrea also joined forces with
Massachusetts' Jeremy Goodwin, who was moving back
home from Chicago and had strong connections with
SCC's Eddie Davidson, to found the
Subbuteo Club of
Salem.

On the veteran side, the 2003-2004 season saw the
"graduation" of the Marques Brothers from sparing
partners to champions. Rick won his first ever Challenge
Cup and claimed second places at the State
Championship and ASA Connecticut Cup. Miguel was
outstanding as he clinched all the milestone
competitions of the year: State Championship, ASA
Northeastern Major, Anniversary Shoot-out Derby.
Also Jim Taylor got some satisfactions as he won his first
ever club competition in Salem, Mass. and reached his
first ever ASA final in the Maximus Cup.
..and talking about Maximus, the reigning New England
champion, Massimo Conturso had a season of ups &
downs, with a few trophies won (5 Challenge Cups, 2
ASA Opens), but other miserably missed (State
Championship, National Championship, ASA Major). The
raising of Miguel Marques and the arrival of Andrea
Gasparini certainly changed the balance of power in the
region. The
2004-2005 season is expected to be
battled until the last flick!

Before wrapping up the season, the club members
would like to wish all the best to two CT youngsters
who suffered health problems during the last few
months: Jeff Davidson and Ostap Mishtal.
The SCC is waiting for you with open arms, guys!
Taylor vs. Marques on August 20th.
Jim Taylor has been unanimously re-elected as
ASA Vice-President for the Northeast
The 2003-04 Subbuteo season in Connecticut
had a certain "vermelho" tone..
The first and most important event of the
upcoming season is on its way.
The SCC will be there!
