Wallingford
The first meeting of April should have been the
return to League action for Jim Taylor aka JT Furby.
Six months have passed since that night in West
Haven when Mr.Furb played 4 matches before
disappearing in the Bloomfield woods.
Unfortunately, instead of a performance of the pitch,
the former Bronx teacher put up another kind of
show: a no-show.
The other 5 players scheduled to attend were
regularly at their place in Wallingford's 3-pitch club
house for the big seven-O edition of the Challenge
Cup.
The group stage resulted very balanced as the top
three players needed three steps of tie breakers to
determine the standings: goal differential,
head-to-head, goals for.
As expected, the young Mishtal happened to be
excluded from the semifinals, despite a fine goal
scored to eventual cup's winner, Massimo Conturso in
the opener.
Conturso won his personal 48th title after getting rid
of Mike Eylward in the semis (6-0 at the break and
consequential forfeit of the young CT star) and after
defeating State Champion, Miguel Marques in a
spectacular final: 1-0 Massimo at the break, 1-1 with
a shot under the goalie, 2-1 at 2 minutes to time.
