71st Challenge Cup
April 21, 2006 in Wallingford, CT
All the SCC Challenges
Wallingford, Friday Night

The little statistic miracle didn't happen.

Rick Marques, winner of edition # 41, 51 and 61,
reached the Challenge # 71 against his older brother
Miguel, but fell short in the quest for a historical poker.
Marques Sr worked his way into over time, where his
bigger experience overcame Rick's quick flicking (not
without some expected controversies).

The title holder, Conturso was held back by his
incapacity to close the games once leading 1-0. In
every GS matches, he went up in the first half, only
to give away a goal after the break.

In the last and decisive round, he needed a 3-0 win
over the young Eylward to access his 7th straight
final. An early goal seemed the prelude to an easy
Italian win. Instead, Mike escaped several jams (not
without help from posts & bars) and scored with 30
seconds to time on a stranded spare goalie to qualify
the Marques Brothers to their 6th Challenge
(28, 40, 41, 51, 64, 71: Miguel leads 4-2).

won 2-1 for an outstanding 3-0-1 night.
