REPORT
2nd Challenge Cup of the season and first
07/08 West Haven meeting for the SCC.
Despite a few members out of state, the
attendance stays high as well as Conturso's
titles count, now at 61.
The Italian faced Rick Marques in their 2nd
consecutive final, 5th of the last 8
tournaments. During their match, Red Sox
fans Massimo & Rick followed Baltimore's
comeback against the Yankees that gave
Boston the East Division title. Rick seemed
more emotionally involved and
consequentially more distracted, and the
Challenge result never looked in doubt.
With Frank & Luis Silva back in action (and
planning a Maryland visit for the December
IO/HS), it was Mike Eylward who caught
everybody's attention. Mike earned 3 ties in
his first 3 games, and took an early lead
against Conturso in the 4th, only to melt
down in the 2nd half (4 goals received) for
the 6-1 loss.
Surprisingly, Frank was the 3rd seed and the
last Silva standing after a 3-2 thriller win over
his brother Luis, who ended up relegated in
last place with 1 point (and an extensive
collection of posts & crossbars).
