Tournament Recap
Walker takes title, SCC, Sheridan and Eyes get it done.

The pride of Minnesota, Zach Walker (Midwest Premier) defeated Miguel Marques (SC-Connecticut) 3-0 in the final of
the ASA National Open and a total field of 31 players. This was Walker’s first win in the final, and breaks Washington’s
stranglehold on the Cup.

Walker bested Andreas Gasparini (Salem Subbuteo) 4-1, while Marques topped his club-mate Massimo Conturso 1-0.

In the Mary Jane Consolation event, Jody Schaaf (Savannah) defeated Steven Laskey (Philly Flickers) 2-1.

The National Team competition produced some of the most tense matches of the day with SC Connecticut -Black
taking the title over Washington’s immortal team. With Conturso, Miguel Marques, Ricky Marques, and Luis Silva getting
the results as Silva won 3-0 over Laskey to provide the needed goal differential  (4-2) in a split match as Andrew Giffin
beat Ricky Marques 1-0 and the other matches were drawn.

SCC-Black used goal differential to overcome Maryland SC I, 5-3, and WTSL beat Midwest Premier 2-1 to advance to
the final.

Maryland’s domination of the U19’s was evident as three quarters of the finalists were from MSC, with Patrick Sheridan
getting the dramatic shootout win over club-mate Daniel Cranston (3-2) in a classic final.  SCC’s  Mike Eylward finished in
third with a (2-0) shootout win over MSC’s Stuart  Russell.

The final competition saw MSC’s talisman Paul Eyes win the Veterans category with a 2-0 win over SCC’s Eddie
Davidson. Eyes beat Keith Constable 1-0 to advance to the final, while Davidson upset Schaaf 2-1 in overtime.

A great weekend of flicking, with a tremendous turnout, see you in St. Louis in 2007.
